Hollywood Cowboys and their Hats

By

You must have seen cowboy movies like, “the good, the bad and the ugly.” When you are watching cowboy movies like these, the most common phrase that flashes across the minds is, “the Wild, Wild West”. Many people prefer to call it “Old West” or “Wild west “or just “west.”

In fact, lots of folks are like minded regarding the fact that the American west land was a dangerous and a rough place. This existed in the latter half of the 1800s in the American frontier, to the west of the Mississippi River.

If you are talking about the western jackets and other garments, well, the first image is that of the wide rimmed cowboy felt hats, boots with spurs on them that jingle every time the hero moves for the kill. The western outfit was worn in the 19th century and has undergone a huge number of changes. We have all seen it- in movies, and even heard of them in country music. If you knew the western apparel that was worn by some western legends of this time like Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, and Wild Billy Hickok, you will see that they are all different from the western fashion wear that is in the market today.

The western outfit was intruded by the cowboy soldiers after the American Civil war. The ranchers during this time in Texas were looking for market to sell their excessive cattle stock. And the east coast was in very short supply of beef. So the ranchers drive their cattle up north to the nearest railroad station, like the Fort Worth. So this became the most important shipping location in 1876. In 1887, people took heart to build the union stockyards about 21/2 miles up north. And it started to operate from 1889.

Then Hollywood word started to take new interest in the cowboy way of life, and they started promoting the fresh spirit of the Wild West there via their movies. The western wear came to prominence once again in the pop culture at the age of 1960, where the Beatles with their cowboy boots spread this trend worldwide amidst millions of fans. During this time, the main cowboy wears that were popularized were the cowboy hats, the boots, jeans and the collared shirt with certain patterns and designs on them.
